Venetian Plaster Installation with Chromatist Painters

Step 1: Preparing the Walls

  • Covering the Room: We remove furniture and protect the floor with a drop cloth.
  • Wall Repair: We fill, caulk, and sand any cracks or holes for a smooth surface.
  • Cleaning: We clean and degrease the walls to remove dirt and grease.
  • Priming: We prime unfinished drywall with flat paint before applying Venetian plaster.

Step 2: Applying the First Coat of Venetian Plaster

Starting from a corner, applying a thin coat of plaster with a flexible steel trowel at a 15- to 30-degree angle and use varied strokes.

Step 3: Applying the Second Coat

  • Angle and Technique: Applying another thin layer of Venetian plaster, holding the trowel or knife at a 60- to 90-degree angle. Use overlapping (X-shaped) strokes for thorough coverage.
  • Drying: Allowing the plaster to dry for at least 24 hours before burnishing.

Step 4: Burnish the Finish

  • Sanding: We use a very fine sandpaper to burnish the surface in a circular motion for a smooth finish.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.
  • Polishing: For a polished look, rub the surface with the flat side of a clean trowel or putty knife.

Step 5: Optional Top Coat Application

  • Top Coat: Applying a Venetian plaster topcoat or paste wax for added sheen and protection.
  • Final Burnishing: Burnish the topcoat in the same way as the plaster for a finished, polished appearance.
