Our Reviews

Chromatist Painters, led by Shayan, exceeded my expectations with their exceptional work on painting my entire house. They went above and beyond, showcasing their talent and attention to detail. Shayan’s guidance throughout the process was invaluable, ensuring that every corner was flawlessly painted. The team’s commitment to excellence and their dedication to customer satisfaction were evident in the outstanding results. I highly recommend Chromatist Painters for their extraordinary service and commend Shayan for his invaluable assistance.

Homestars

We engaged Chromatist to paint our 100 year old home in mid-town Toronto this spring. There were a number of issues that made this job a little unique. We had just gotten our knob-and-tube wiring replaced so there were a lot of holes that had been recently roughly plastered over.
Also, there was a large hole in the lathe-and-plaster ceiling of our dining room from a plumbing leak. Finally, our hallway was finished with faux
painting that simulated marble and brick with some trompe-l’oele of leaves in a vase that we wished to preserve rather than paint over.

Shayan and his team were a pleasure to work with and did a great job on this challenging project. Every day the painters were very considerate and minimized disruption such that we were able to continue to work from home during the whole process.

We especially appreciate the work on the faux painting in the hall, where Shayan had someone come in to analyze color matches and then hand painted and blended the colors so as to seamlessly hide the cracks and plaster that was there before. It looks better now than it did when we bought our house (a long time ago!).

Thanks Shayan and team. We are definitely interested in working with you again.

Shayan and his team were awesome!

Totally professional, trustworthy and got our job done very quickly ! They worked around our family of 5 while painting our whole house. They also worked well around the other tradespeople we had coming and going. Most importantly, the painting looked fantastic.

I highly recommend Chromatist painters!

I normally don’t like dealing with contractors, except for those few who truly understand the value of customer service. And Shayan and his team are the best! On time. On budget. Excellent job. Friendly. And Shayan knows that superior customer service is the key to happy customers. I highly recommend Shayan and Chromatist for any painting needs, you will be so happy you did

Both Venetian plaster and microcement provide stunning options for fireplace walls, each offering unique textures and visual effects. The choice depends on the overall design aesthetic you wish to achieve:

For a classic, elegant look: Venetian plaster with a smooth or textured finish.

For a modern, industrial feel: Microcement with a seamless, raw concrete effect.

Fireplace TV Wall Ideas: Your Q&A Guide to Plaster Finishes

What are the best plaster finishes for a modern fireplace TV wall?2025-09-16T18:14:41-04:00

The most popular choices for a sleek, custom look are Venetian plaster, microcement, Roman clay, and limewash. Each offers a distinct aesthetic:

  • Venetian Plaster: Best for a polished, organic, and timeless look. Its smooth, marble-like surface has a subtle, light-reflecting depth that adds a layer of sophistication. Learn more about different types of Venetian plaster finishes. It feels right at home in luxurious spaces in Rosedale or Forest Hill.
  • Microcement: The go-to for a modern, minimalist, and industrial-chic design. Its seamless, concrete-like finish offers a clean, architectural look that is both raw and refined. It’s a popular choice for new-builds or loft-style condos in King West.
  • Roman Clay: Ideal for an organic, soft, and textured aesthetic. Its matte, velvety finish creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. This finish pairs perfectly with natural wood elements and is a top choice for farmhouse-style or rustic modern homes.
  • Limewash: Perfect for a natural, chalky, and beautifully aged look. This finish is applied with a brush, creating a soft, streaky texture that gives the surface a subtle, weathered feel. It’s an excellent choice for a fireplace that you want to have a historic or rustic charm.

Will the decorative plaster crack from the heat of the fireplace?2025-09-16T18:17:21-04:00

This is a very common and important concern. When installed by a skilled professional, these plaster finishes are designed to handle the temperature changes of a fireplace. We use specific materials and techniques, including a specialized heat-resistant primer, to ensure the finish remains stable and crack-free. A properly prepared substrate and expert application are key to the durability of a plaster fireplace.

How much does a custom plaster fireplace TV wall cost?2025-09-16T18:18:23-04:00

The cost is a significant investment that reflects the specialized craftsmanship and high-quality materials. Prices vary widely based on the size of the wall, the complexity of the design (e.g., built-in niches or seamless returns), and the material chosen. While a specific quote is required, you can expect the cost to be starting from $2800, similar to a high-end fireplace surround.

How long does the installation of a decorative plaster on a fireplace TV wall take?2025-09-16T18:20:16-04:00

The process is meticulous and cannot be rushed due to the necessary drying times between layers. A typical plaster fireplace TV wall project takes 2 to 5 business days. This is because each of the multiple layers of plaster requires a specific amount of time to dry and cure. Rushing the process would compromise the finish’s quality, durability, and visual depth.

Can you install a decorative plaster finish over an existing brick or stone fireplace?2025-09-16T18:21:48-04:00

Yes, absolutely. This is one of the most common applications for these plaster finishes. The process involves thoroughly cleaning the existing surface, applying a special high-adhesive primer, and then building up the plaster layers to create a new, seamless, and modern surface. This is a popular way to resurface the dated brick or stone fireplaces without a major demolition.

Can you color-match the plaster to my room’s palette?2025-09-16T18:22:57-04:00

Yes. The beauty of these artisanal finishes is their complete customizability. The plaster can be tinted in any Benjamin Moore color to match or complement any color in your design palette. This ensures a perfectly cohesive and unique look for your fireplace TV wall ideas.
